A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Our classroom has gone through a recent update which includes some really awesome flexible seating options including high top and adjustable tables. This year we will have approximately twenty-six energetic 4th graders. They are hardworking and ready for 21st century learning. The problem is... we are without a comfortable place to sit on the floor during our whole group meetings! Our classroom community is all about collaboration. Students work best when they work alongside their peers in a comfortable learning environment. Research shows that students are able to focus and do their best work when they are comfortable. Across the nation, classrooms are changing the way student workspaces look, for the better!
Research has shown the benefits of flexible seating and how student choice and comfort increases engagement and participation.
Therefore, a beautiful new carpet to add to our student-centered classroom redesign is the focus of this project.
My Project
Our students are amazing! They enjoy working together and collaborating on projects. Having a large carpet where students can comfortably meet and interact with one another would be amazing. The children enjoy entering the classroom after lunch and meeting at the carpet to listen to a chapter in our read aloud. Students love to be able to lay down with a pillow during independent reading time and comfortably get lost in their books. Having a space where students are able to get comfortable are more engaged than those just sitting in their seat. Allowing students to have the carpet as a flexible seating option would help increase student engagement!
