I am so pleased with and proud of my students! My students grow up in a very tough area and come to school with very little. Our school is located in the inner-city where we have a 100% free lunch program for our entire school. Many of our students live with some sort of relative and our families/ guardians often struggle to find employment and opportunity, so many students do not have books at home.
Because of this, it is up to me to provide them with their educational experiences and encourage them to become life-long learners and keep their creativity and inquisitiveness challenged.
My students absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging activities which challenge them to think outside the box to find solutions. They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. They love school so much that at the end of the school day, they tell me that they don’t want to go home!
My Project
Auditory learners build their sight word recognition skills and strategies to chunk and break down words by listening to stories. I purchased my own listening center and am seeking your assistance in building their listening library with books and CD sets.
Most of my students have no books at home, so listening to books and following the words assists them in learning how to read and also helps them embark on many different adventures each week while entertaining them with music and excitement of these incredible stories.
Many strategy focuses can be taught and incorporated in each of the titles I chose. My hope is to build a library with four or five books of each title so that it can be added to our daily literacy center time. With your help, my students will have another avenue to build their reading skills.
