My Students

The students in my classroom are amazing children that love to learn. Just imagine the excitement you feel when you are about to learn something brand new! You're excited and pumped and then you realize you don't have the correct tools to help guide your learning. Now the excitement is replaced with confusion and then eventually, frustration.

This frustration is the reality for some of my students, due to not having enough supplies for every classroom.

I work in a low income school and it is extremely difficult to come by the additional materials needed to make learning truly meaningful and successful for every child. With your generous donation, you will be able to help these children to feel confident in their learning.

My Project

3rd grade sets the foundation for multiplication, division, fractions, area and perimeter. These kits will allow the students to visually see and demonstrate new math practices and learning standards through exploration.

Every student is unique and learns differently, therefore hands-on materials are essential for learning and manipulating.

The use of individualized math kit packets allows each student their own materials to explore a new concept or skill.

The area and perimeter kit allows students to create regular and irregular shapes for finding area or perimeter. Students would then be able to use the tiles to determine the shape's area and perimeter by counting the tiles or using the formulas when ready and having that shape in front of them to check their work. This kit is also very important, because it can be used daily with just understanding multiplication and how repeated addition relates to multiplication. The students will be able to use the tiles for creating arrays and learning their basic facts. Fractions are a very hard concept to understand in third grade. Students are asked to understand equivalent fractions, fractions on number lines with different denominators, and we even begin adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominators. Both fraction kits are essential for every student to feel confident. The students will be able to take their own individual packet, and manipulate the circles and strips to show how two different fractions are equivalent to each other. This is a huge concept for third grade students and they truly struggle with it. These strips will also help students while applying equivalent fractions to a number line. As for the base ten blocks, these will be fabulous while students are adding or subtracting 3 digit numbers and understanding place value for regrouping or borrowing!
