Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are deeply committed to making art and photography that is meaningful, beautiful, and powerful. However, they rarely get to see their images printed, off the digital screen. They are fascinated by older technology as well. The instant cameras and film requested are a great way for them to experience the process of film photography in an accessible fun way, and enrich their understanding of image-making.

Being able to use 2 cameras and multiple amounts of film means that multiple classes and many more students can benefit from this experience.

Trial and error are a big part of the analog photography learning process, so having enough film for them to learn from their mistakes is crucial.

Instant film is also having such a popular comeback now. Having access to a "cool" piece of equipment that most of my students might not normally be able to have access to increases their cultural capital, levels the playing field, and makes the curriculum more culturally relevant.
