My Students

My classroom is filled with a diverse group of learners in Las Vegas, Nevada. They vary significantly in their levels and abilities, but they are all incredibly eager to learn. My third graders are learning what it means to have a growth mindset. They cheer each other on whenever someone shows grit, and they constantly remind one another that it is okay to make mistakes.

My Project

Literacy standard SL.3.1 encourages students to engage in collaborative discussions. After visiting the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia, I was able to see just how joyful and meaningful classroom discussions can be! My goal is to make our conversations more STUDENT-led to allow them to be leaders.

I want to encourage students to engage in classroom discussions by providing novelty items that will make it FUN!

The laser pointers will allow students to speak without having their backs to their classmates by giving them the tool to point at the board or anchor charts around the room without physically using their fingers. The musical instruments will encourage students to demonstrate their active listening by playing them when they agree or when a student has impressed them with their knowledge!
