My Project

Fourth graders know next to nothing about the American Revolution. Through our curriculum and with these additional books their knowledge base will grow tremendously. My students love to read new books and especially a variety of books. When we begin a new topic, my students immediately go looking for the "basket" of books related to the topic.

Books that are dedicated to the topic and in addition to the curriculum is what get students making connections.

The excitement that students show when reading and learning new information is what motivates others to want to read more books. Reading is so contagious in classrooms when excitement about books is there.

These books will help my students make more connections with what we are already reading. Their knowledge will grow more because we have more material to access. Students will be reading a variety of books by many authors to see similarities and to see different perspectives.

When I teach I want my students to love what they are learning and then to want to go and learn more on their own. If these books were in our classroom they would be able to go and read more while continuing to discuss their findings.

My fourth graders are special because they are kids who are eager to learn. They are constantly asking questions about anything that we are discussing. My students want to be individuals who can go out and educate others. They love looking for connections between topics we have already discussed with what we are learning now. They are all unique but in the time that we have been together have become a little classroom family who care about one another.
