This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child's success is the positive involvement of parents." - Jane D. Hull
The students vary in different ability levels.
This includes students who are new to the country and speak very little English.
My students come from low income homes. Most of the school consists of English Language Learners (92%) and come from homes where the parents don't speak English and many are unable to help their children with homework. The students at my school come from countries around the world. Many are newcomers to the country and their parents have very few resources.
My Project
I am requesting American government resource boxes and books which will contain everything students need to learn about U.S. government while developing reading and writing skills at the same time! The boxes contain realistic props that give students a tactile and visual sense of important topics. The boxes contain materials that support national social studies standards and build essential language skill. Students will be reading for information and developing comprehension as well as writing in a variety of styles and genres. These resources will help the newcomers as well as native students learn more about the United States government and how our country is run and what it means to be a citizen.
The Time for Kids magazines will expose students to informational texts that shares information about the current events occurring in the country.
This will increase students reading abilities as well as expose them to a different genre of text.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
