My students are eager to learn and full of energy. I teach at a rural Title I school. Almost 100% of students receive free or reduced lunches. My student population includes foster situations, one parent or both parents who are incarcerated, grandparents raising grandchildren, emotional needs, and those who learn differently.
Every student deserves to feel valued no matter their zip code.
I have students whose basic needs are met and those that are not. Our school's meals are for those who need them. Counseling, clothing, school supplies, and extra-curricular opportunities are available to try to reach all our families.
My Project
Have you ever wanted to do a project and not had the time or resources to make it happen?
The development of STEM proficient students begins in elementary schools.
In my classroom, students will participate in a literacy-based STEM project at least once a month. Stations will be set up with a read aloud along with a science, technology, engineering, and math challenge or activity. This project will encompass students at multiple grade levels, kindergarten-fifth grade.
Classes would read aloud Mr. Ferris and his wheel. Students would complete a project journal including a problem/task sheet, planning sheet, reflection sheet, World's Fair Application, and a persuasive writing activity. Students would also build a Ferris wheel from everyday household items.
The materials in this project will allow grades kindergarten-fifth grade to participate in a STEM activity each month. This experiences will allow students to develop critical thinking skills and the ability to work as a team.
Students will gain a love for school and learning that will last their entire lifetime.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
