My Students

My third grade students are eager to learn. They are curious, creative, and have great imaginations even though we are a Title I school in a high poverty neighborhood.

Most of my students live in public housing which is why I need your help to help my students thrive over this virtual time due to Covid-19.

Their neighborhoods are rough and school is a place for them to be safe. My class is mostly African American children who face a lot of challenges.

My job, as a teacher, is to help my students overcome these challenges and become the amazing adults I know they can become.

My Project

First I want to thank everyone for helping us build an amazing classroom library which will also be shared with teachers and students throughout the school. Thanks to you we have so many new wonderful books. This project is based on the list called "Best Bets" published by Joan Kindig. She has been putting together lists for teachers for the last 20 years.

This collection includes multicultural books, poetry books and lots of non fiction, all written in the last 2 years.

I am a complete book nerd and want my students to have the same love and the larger our library is the more likely that will happen. I prize myself on being able to find a book that will interest every child but that does require a large collection, and for that reason I am so grateful for all the support you have provided this year.

Teachers can not do this job alone, if we want our students to succeed we need to all do this together and I am beyond grateful for the support you have shown. Thank you so much!
