My Students

My 2nd grade students are kind, motivated and eager-to-learn. They enjoy working collaboratively and using technology to enhance their learning. My students attend an inner-city public school. Many of my students are bused from the surrounding neighborhoods, and 80% come from low income households. My students qualify for free breakfast and lunch every day. My students are excited, motivated, and look forward to learning new ideas, but they will need the proper resources in order to be successful. Having these tools would make it a better learning environment.

My Project

Some of the key components of students success are small group work and guided reading.

These are strategies that I implement in my classroom in order to ensure that my students are getting what they need as learners. This is especially important for my students who are English Language Learners and Special Education students. The small group setting enables me to teach specific skills to students who may require more repetition.

Currently, my classroom does not have a designated table for guided reading and small group instruction, making this challenging.

Having a guided reading table and chairs is much more comfortable than sitting on the floor using clipboards. In addition, students with attentional issues are able to better focus sitting at a table with chairs.
