My Students

"There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate's loot on Treasure Island." -Walt Disney I want my kindergartners to have access to as many of these treasures as possible to become excited, engaged, proficient readers!

My kindergartners are awesome, eager learners, and they are so excited about reading and using technology in the classroom!

They can't wait to learn how to use a new app or device, and engage in learning tasks that use technology. We are a Title I school in Montana, and many of our students come from low income or disadvantaged homes. My goal is to provide them with every resource available to be successful. Utilizing technology allows me to give the students opportunities to learn in an environment that is fun and engaging - they absolutely love reading books using digital tools! The kids are motivated, engaged and excited, and they want to be at school learning every day. They are able to interact with the material they are reading, which makes it more meaningful for them. Speakaboos is an amazing tool that will provide my students access to more than 250 digital stories. They will be able to access these stories from the web, iPads or an iPod.

My Project

Speakaboos is a fantastic tool that will provide over 250 interactive picture books for my kindergartners. Currently my classroom has 3 iPads and 1 iPod Touch, plus weekly access to a mobile computer lab. Using these devices, students would be able to utilize the Speakaboos subscription during study station time in our classroom, as well as for at-home reading. However, I am currently working with our district's Education Foundation as part of an Interactive Inquiry Project, and should receive funding for a classroom set of iPad Minis. I am absolutely thrilled at the possibility of revolutionizing learning in our classroom! The Speakaboos subscription, combined with 1-to-1 devices, will be an amazing tool to help my kindergartners become successful, engaged 21st Century learners and readers!

Donations to this project will allow us to purchase a 30-student subscription to Speakaboos, providing all of my students access to high quality, interactive digital books.

My kindergartners will be excited to read, interact with, and talk about the stories. I also love that the kindergartners and their families will be able to read the stories together at home. Speakaboos will help my students meet the rigor of the Common Core curriculum, and help them become successful beginning readers!
