Space to Create!

Help me give my students the flexibility to create wonderful and amazing things in my k-6 art class.

My Project

I decided to switch from the regular classroom to the K-6th art room during the pandemic. I can't even tell you all of the ways that the pandemic made it difficult to create art when students had to isolate so much. Students had difficulty creating art with others when they had to be at home, students had difficulty connecting with each other through masks, and students had difficulty feeling free to be creative with restrictive space and supplies. These new items will provide opportunities to create, destress, and increase places for inspiration and cooperation in our art classroom.

I want to provide some fun open ended STEM inspired items for my students to encourage inquiry based learning and help infuse some imagination and problem solving opportunities into our interactive peer art experience.

I wish to add flexible seating to the room, that will encourage students to relax, create, and inspire each other in new ways. Art sitting "rocking" horses will provide alternative seating for students that have sensory needs and can provide a quieter environment for students to create calmly. Having a standing easel will support and nurture students that need to move to create. These new tools will help support the inner artist of all my students and add to the culture and climate of our creative space.

My art students are unique because they work to create their individual artist's vision that reflects who they are and who they want to become. They learn to tap into their own personality, interests, and use personal goals to create a beautiful and one of a kind piece of art! I am always looking for new ways to enhance our creativity and help nurture my students' sense of accomplishment and success. I hope you can help us reach our goal!
