My Students

Since a picture is worth 1,000 words imagine what a video about a concept or place would do for a student, especially one trying to learn English? Technology is a very powerful hook for my students. Our new citizens will be the leaders of the future and they need to be adept at using these technical tools.

Help our classroom take amazing and exciting journeys to the far corners of the world and universe.

Let us see the breathtaking Himalayan Mountains, the ancient pyramids of Egypt and the moons of Saturn. And, while we are traveling, we can learn English grammar and reading skills. An iPad is the ticket to taking these educational virtual adventures. My third grade English Language Learners attend a Title I school where budget monies are stretched thin and funds for new books and supplies are limited. Many students come from homes without computers or tablets. Students are diverse in cultures and learning styles but all are quickly captivated and engaged with hands-on activities.

My Project

I am requesting an iPad with protective cover for whole, small group and individual instruction. This iPad will provide real-time, in-depth learning to my third grade ELL students and, provide access to the latest language acquisition apps. The abundance of available learning apps will add a new dimension to my work centers as they animate and explain hard to imagine abstract concepts. In addition, I will be able to project stories and lessons from the iPad to the SMART Board for whole group instruction.
