Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a school where 75 % of the students receive free or reduced lunch. They struggle to focus at school and get help with their school work at home. Many suffer from anxiety, but still maintain a positive attitude once they arrive at school. I also serve a large population of students with Autism and ADHD.

My students love coming to school and interacting with the adults in a very positive way.

For most of them, English is their second language, which adds another level of anxiety to their schooling because they have a hard time understanding math concepts.

My Project

This year our focus is Math Problem Solving. I will incorporate the Visual Arts and Minecraft to make math more meaningful. My students need help understanding how math is something they will use in their lives and the 3D printer will help them with that.

I am training my students for future jobs that have not been created yet.

As technology in our world advances, I need to teach my students to become creative problem solvers in order to help them be successful in this competitive world.

The students will use the 3D printer to print colorful 3D creations using the Minecraft platform as inspiration; as they solve realistic world problems. The students will create models of cities that solve various problems posted, or create devices that will solve some issues they feel passionate about. They will collaborate in groups in order to solve problems and print their beautiful creations. The extra colored filament will ensure I have enough material for my two math classes and my art club.

By incorporating Art and Technology in my math classes, I will engage my students and teach them to collaborate while having a bit of fun. Having printed 3D models of the work they have done in class will also ensure that my Special Education students understand the math concepts better, in a colorful way. Math will become something concrete they can see, touch, and take home with them to show off to their families.
