My Students

My students are CT special education students who have been placed at the districts alternative high school program. The students in my classroom are frequently waiting for placement at agencies outside of the public school system due to severe behavior issues. However, this wait can take years. Our area does not have enough placements. The students struggle with both behavioral and academic issues. They are working to earn their high school diplomas after being kicked out of other schools. Despite being the building with the students who need the most support, we are given the least amount of funding and very few resources. We will appreciate the donations!

My Project

These magazines will be used as a supplement to the text book. One of our school wide goals is to have students reading independently in all subject areas on a daily basis. The challenge is finding high school appropriate materials that are written on a level our students with special needs can comprehend independently. Most of the students struggle to read the text books provided by our district. We are always looking for supplement the curriculum with other appropriate materials on a very low budget. Our classes are small enough that the 15 copies would enough to have each student use 1 for the period
