Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an energetic bunch! They are full of curiosity and keep me on my toes.

They are special because they, like anyone, have the desire to communicate, but may have some difficulty at times.

My students live in a lower socioeconomic area and some of the parents do not speak or read fluent English to know what their rights are to ask for help. Besides their current situation, my students have shown me that they have the potential to be very successful if they have a communication tool to "bridge the gap". My students love to express themselves through music, dancing and art. They love to share what they can do to others, because like everyone, they just want to connect.

My Project

Regular seats are sometimes not enough to stay focused, so students need options that best fits them. My students often have sensory needs and need sensory seating best for them. I have used alternative seating in my class, with wobble chairs and they have worked for some students, but not all. After experimenting with my own equipment, I found that balls fit other students the best, so that is why I am expanding my alternative seating collection. This will help focus my students, which will help them get their sensory needs met, while learning.
