My Students

I teach a middle school life skills classroom where my students vary drastically in their needs and abilities. It is an urban school where almost all of the students qualify for a free or reduced lunch and 30% are learning English which impacts their academic performance. All of the students in my classroom perform several grade levels below on standardized tests. It is my goal for them to learn the skills needed to successfully live independently once they are adults. Each of my students is unique and holds a special place in my heart!

My Project

New seating, 2 bean bags and cushioned saucer chairs will help to make the library and reading area in my room more appealing to my students. They all struggle to read and associate it as a stressful, unenjoyably experience. I am hoping that by creating an inviting, comfy space in which they can chose from a variety of seating options that they will feel comfortable enough to relax and learn to enjoy the joys of reading! It will also provide alternative seating to my students who find it difficult to sit at a desk or table. This new seating will help create several options for my students to feel excited about learning!
