My Students

How would a typical day in my visual art classroom be described? Students would say it is exciting! They enter class every day eager to experience each and every assignment. With their materials in hand they are ready to work!

My students grow more eager and excited each year to experience bigger and better things.

From beginner foundations studies to photography and graphic design to stained glass and AP portfolios, we are fortunate to offer it all within our small Visual Art Department. Our students are not only challenged artistically but also academically in the development of creative and critical thinking skills, crucial for success in the 21st century. It is our goal as a Visual Art Department to stay abreast of our ever changing industry to bring creative and relevant learning experiences to our talented students. These unique experiences allow our students to leave high school college and career ready.

My Project

Currently photography is a missing link in my foundation level art classes. My students are able to take photographs digitally but the excitement seems to fade quickly after our final critiques. They are eager to do more with their photographs and for the opportunity to experiment within the world of photography. With these Nature Print materials and the transparency film students will be able to experience a beautiful alternative photographic process. During this unit students will take landscape inspired photographs, use digital imaging software to transform their images into digital negatives and then print them onto the transparency film. After the negative is created the transparency film is placed on top of the Nature print paper and then exposed to sunlight. After the exposure the paper is rinsed in running water and a beautiful blue tinted photograph is left behind.

The funding of this project will offer my foundations students the opportunity to experience more than simply taking photographs.

With this funding they will be able to experiment with photography on an entirely new level. Finally, they will be able to take their images off of their digital screens and have unique, tangible artwork that they created.
