Help Ms. Collins

My students love to do activities in class outside of taking notes and reading the textbook. I enjoy being creative and bringing outside sources to my students, but with budget restraints it is not always possible. I teach biology in an urban school with no budget to buy extra materials.

Not all of my students understand the material the first time around. Some of my students have a difficult time grasping the concepts in the textbook. My students also have to take an "End of Course" exam at the end of the year which covers everything taught the entire year. I strive to have all of my students achieve in biology class and to help them prepare for the exam as well as college.

With differentiated learning we use different materials and approaches to help those students wo do not learn from reading out of the textbook. There are different cartoon guides which breaks down the concepts we cover in class and uses cartoons to teach the material. I believe this will make it easier to understand. The environment guide can also be used in our new Environmental Science class. I would also love to use the heredity chart as an alternative to the book in teaching Mendel's experiments. These materials will help prepare my students for the exam at the end of the school year as well as for college science classes.

With your donation my class will acquire alternative texts to help all of my students understand the concepts of biology and prepare them to take the end of course exam. Thank you for supporting science education in the public schools!
