My students participate in a hybrid alternative educational experience. While all curriculum is teacher created and available online, students attend 1 - 5 days a week to participate in seminars and labs.
Our is an alternative school and we strive to create a safe and comfortable atmosphere in our classroom.
Some students do not find success in traditional classrooms. These classrooms can be sources of anxiety, bullying, and other social and emotional landmines.
Creating a safe and comfortable classroom helps students release their anxieties and focus on their studies. Many students are able to thrive academically once they are in a fun and functional classroom.
My Project
Many of my students attend our nontraditional, hybrid program because of the anxiety and bullying they may have experienced in a traditional classroom. Some of them have been bullied and do not want to attend school, while other students feel anxious in a crowded classroom with 29 other students.
I am seeking to create a safe, friendly and inviting classroom in order to help students become comfortable in a classroom environment.
Once they are comfortable and feel safe, they are able to focus on their educational pursuits.
Last year Donors Choose helped me bring two bean bag chairs, a rug, and other alternative seating to my classroom. The students thrived in this environment and I am hoping to expand our non traditional seating arrangements. I am asking for additional seating including a rug, bean bag seats, and yoga cushions.
