My Students

Remember how fun it was to simply write stories? To create whole wonderful worlds and incredible events? The word processors could help students rediscover their early love of creating stories and novels.

My students are deaf, and I teach in a state school for the deaf.

I teach 9th-12th grades. Because of their deafness, English is very much not their primary language, and thus for the most part, they hate reading and writing. Through this project, I hope to spark a love of reading and writing by unlocking their creative potential.

My Project

My students will be able to write their long term novel writing projects using these AlphaSmarts. They will learn and apply the story arc, various vocabulary they have learned, and after printing, learn and use the process of editing and revision. At the end of the school year, the students will publish their work and have a copy placed in the school library.

Sometimes you were the hero or heroine, sometimes you stood back and watched the story unfold like a movie.

This project will help students connect the English language in a way that helps them to improve their writing skills. Not just in proper English syntax, but also their vocabulary and word choice. They will grow in confidence that they can write a novel, and by the end of the project, they will have a novel in their hands.
