My Students

My classroom has a wide range of reading levels. To motivate the lower level readers, they need access to high interest books. "To get better at reading, you have to read!" and that is our goal for the year.

My classroom makeup is a blend of general education, former English Language Learners, and current English Language Learners 5th graders.

They are motivated to listen to read-alouds and volunteer to read when they are given the chance. They love to delve into books that are displayed. However, a majority of the class are below grade level readers. They need a lot of support in school.

My Project

My students need high-interest books. I hope that the high-interest books will help to motivate the lower level readers to read more often, not just when they are expected, but when they want. I hope that they will grow to really LOVE reading. Reading is the basic skill that will help them to excel in all other areas of school. With interest in reading, they can build their strategies through practice.

My students will be able to access books that aren't available for them currently in the classroom.

I truly believe that students need to find a book to love to get them hooked on reading and I hope that these books will provide this hook.
