My Students

When you think of a kindergarten classroom what is the first thing you visualize? For most people, they think of a rug for the students to sit on. My students deserve a clean inviting rug to sit on everyday. The kindergartners learn so much being engaged on the rug in my classroom.

This year I have 25 enthusiastic kindergarten students.

About 80 percent of my students are on free or reduced lunch. All of my students are highly motivated to learn, no matter what challenges they face at home or in the community. All the parents in my class want the best education for their child and they try their best to support their child's learning.

My Project

I would love to have a new rug for my students to sit on. Due to budget cuts, I am the one who vacuums the rug 4 out of 5 days. I am the one who shampoos the rug twice a year. But it has come to a point that even if I shampoo the rug...it doesn't seem to make a difference. My students sit and interact on this 10 year old rug and I think it is time to get a new one, with your help. This rug has helped me teach at least 220 kindergartners how to read, write, count, get along etc. and really prepare the students for first grade. This rug is not just a rug. It is filled with numbers, letters and words. There are numerous activities we can do in the classroom with this rug. When we learn a new letter sound, the students love to find the letter on the rug and they are always excited when they learn to read all the words on the rug.

I would love for my students to get a new rug this year.

Due to budget cuts, our school has no money to replace my rug (I have been asking for 3 years). I think they deserve it and I know they would truly appreciate a new rug. We probably spend about 30% of our day on the rug. I hope you will support this project. With your help, you will provide a better environment for learning. Thank you for touching so many lives.
