Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Working in a low-income school district, my students are faced with several challenges both inside and out of the classroom. Due to the many challenges they face, I strive to keep a high energy and fun learning classroom, allowing them to experience new things.

As their music teacher, I am constantly providing them with upbeat, fun and exciting opportunities they may not necessarily experience otherwise.

They love to sing, dance and play instruments, but we are very limited with our resources. I would love to be able to improve their music education and performance experience by giving them basic tools to help them succeed.

My Project

We've been learning in school, we've been learning at home, some of my students log in to class from the car, day-care even EL SALVADOR! Regardless of where they are, there's one thing they can continue to do... DRUM IT OUT! We've gotten very creative... using pots and pans, exercise balls, real drums and more but we CAN'T STOP and we WON'T STOP! Because they are highly engaged, laughing, having fun and LEARNING all at the same time.

These energetic, fun activities can help alleviate stress for my students and allow them to make music together in a creative, exciting way!

These new drums will help continue to build a sense of community in our class. They will be used for years to come... so not to worry, the scholars that are currently virtual will get a chance to play some day!
