My Students

Located just blocks from the United Nations, my 2nd grade students represent countries from around the world. With that said, I currently have 26 students and TWELVE different languages are spoken in my classroom; not including English. Many of my students begin the year, or join our class mid-year, with little to no English.

Diversity of the thirteen spoken languages in my classroom, allow for an amplitude of learning for both my students and me.

We are so fortunate to have the opportunity to learn from one another. All the students have different life experiences and that it what makes my class amazing.

My Project

Providing iPads to my class will open an opportunity for students that do not speak English to participate in daily instruction. I rely on my iPhone daily to translate what I am saying so all students have access to instruction. This means I am often translating each lesson to over 10 languages. Through the use of an iPad, my students will have access to hundreds of apps and websites that will be able to translate daily instruction.

Having iPads available, will allow for student independence and will provide non-English speakers the confidence to share their ideas.

I want all students to feel included and through the use of technology, that is possible.
