Hello All! My name is Ms. Almanza and I teach Drama & Technical Theatre in South Texas. I am a second-year teacher and have learned so much amazing things about my students. My campus is low-income and many of my students are of Hispanic/Latino descent.
Before I came in, most students didn't even know what theatre was, much less what it called for.
I have worked crazy long days 7 am-9 pm to train students in acting, tech, and performance. My students have attended at least one competition each month this past school year and have started bringing home many awards. We even have a student qualifier going to compete in Arizona this summer for the national competition of NSDA! I am super proud of my students and growing this program but truthfully the essentials are so hard to keep up with at times.
My lessons are very hands-on and interactive training students in a mostly space. The current project is turning my classroom into a black box theatre. The storage units will be super helpful in storing all the expensive light & sound equipment. The classroom is being repainted and refurnished and the posters would make the environment feel like home. The rug will work to blackout the floor since that cannot be painted. The items in my cart will be for creating and building the black box theatre of their dreams! I hope & pray help can be achieved for my budding drama program!
