My Project

We are wheeling into OHE! We are asking for donations of quad skates in various sizes for our elementary school's collaborative music and PE programs. Why roller skates? Roller skating provides a fun and engaging way to develop important physical skills like balance, coordination, muscle strength, and cardiovascular fitness.

Why is it important to make this project a PE/Music collaboration?

Because the two naturally fit together. Music naturally stimulates parts of the brain responsible for unconscious movement. That’s why you find yourself head-bobbing and tapping your toe to a favorite tune. We notice it in our learners. There is a profound mood change when music plays and they start moving. Adding music to PE helps students stay on task and often can be used to get attention back on the activity. Using PE and Music invites active participation from students - whether in suggesting a favorite song or coming up with a band new move.

Skating is a great all-around exercise and can be adapted for a variety of skill levels. Skating with a group or in an all-community event gives students the chance to practice teamwork and grow their social skills. Fun and engaging, a learner who may not always participate finds skating enjoyable. It can be a great motivator to get active!
