My Students

Imagine students in middle school without the knowledge to decipher the difference between a job application and a college application. Some of my students with learning disabilities don't know their addresses. Most of them do not know the first step in setting goals for the future. Help!

I currently work at a middle school in Florida.

The students that I work with are SPED students. In the State of Florida, these students have learning disabilities. The age range of these students is from 13 to 16 years of age. Their disabilities include ADD, Bipolar, ADHD and Conduct Disorder. They live in single-parent households and, for the majority of them, fathers aren't around. However, because we only have 8th graders in our school, funds are very limited.

My Project

My students need to be prepared for the ninth grade. The 2 Kindle Fires I am requesting will help my students become knowledgeable about using technology to create their Career Portfolios. They will learn the skills needed to create a Cover Letter, Resume, and to fill out online college and job applications. They will learn how to use different software to create spreadsheets. They will also learn the skill of using PowerPoint to create presentations. The technology will create better readers out of my kids. Colleges are moving towards technology and my students' needs will be better met with the Kindle Fires.

This Career Portfolio will provide my special education students with the criteria they need to be prepared for high school.

The Kindle Fires will help them create their portfolios for future career aspirations. Your support will make entrepreneurs out of my SPED students.
