Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students are bilingual, Spanish/English speakers from the Mission District in San Francisco. They come to school everyday, eager and excited to learn despite the many obstacles they face. They work hard with determination and grit in the hopes to build a successful life for themselves.
A typical student is reading below grade level with little to no support at home.
They experience violence and substance abuse in their surrounding neighborhood. School is like a warm blanket that keeps them safe in the throws of trauma.
My Project
My students are ninety-five percent Latino, all who receive free lunch in our school. English is their second language and they need opportunities to access the curriculum, which contains difficult language and concepts. Writing, reading, and math is a great challenge since those essential skills are often not practiced at home. They arrive to school with a linguistic deficit, with very few supports at home. By having appropriate classroom supplies such as an all purpose easel, all my students will be able to learn and grow in confidence as learners and individuals. Any student would love a classroom environment filled with rich learning experiences and interactive displays.
