Kindergartners need concrete experience with objects and manipulatives to explore letter sounds and make connections to the alphabet. Learning the alphabet and the letter sounds is critical because it is the first step in learning how to read!
My school is located in a very small town, and my kindergarten students come from low income families.
I have the privilege of providing my students with their first school experience. I want to make it an interesting and engaging experience for every one of my students. As a first-year teacher, I need help in equipping my classroom with all of the resources that will help my students become better readers and writers.
My Project
Using the alphabet sound teaching tubs will provide my students with a fun way to learn phonics. Students will be able to identify and sort a variety of miniature objects, as well as being able to play memory games and build vocabulary skills. For each letter of the alphabet, a tub is provided containing six objects plus plastic letters. The tubs are also self-checking so that students will become more independent as they work on their phonics-building.
Helping students develop a passion for reading starting at an early age is the best gift that we as educators can give.
In order to motivate my students at a developmentally-appropriate level, I find that these alphabet/digraph sound tubs will provide the concrete experience for students to be engaged and have fun learning! Thank you for taking the time out to read about this project. Please help my students meet our goal to become awesome readers!
