My Students

Hello!

My students are my inspiration!

Our school is a K-5 elementary school located on the south side of Chicago. The students love hands-on projects and challenges that push their growth. We use a variety of learning strategies, group work and flexible seating to ensure that each students' individual needs are met. There are 30 students in my class and every scholar enjoys asking questions, being creative and beating their personal best!

The majority of my students are eligible for free school breakfast/lunch and school for them is like a home away from home. They are an incredible group of scholars, and I am excited to support a new cohort of learners in the upcoming year!

My Project

When I walked into my first classroom, I walked into an empty room. But with help from generous friends, family and unsuspecting garage salesmen, I was able to gather many materials to support my students year! There is still so much more to do to meet my students' diverse learning needs however.

I hope you can help me fill this wish list of random items that I know will make this upcoming year even more engaging and supportive of my students' diverse interests and learning needs.

I am creating a flexible seating chart for my classroom and an essential set of seats would be wobble chairs! Kids have lots of energy, some more than others, and sitting down for just 25 minutes can be a challenge. The wobble chairs will be perfect for students who need ways to get out that excess energy while still focus on tasks in front of them. The STEM supplies such as the Knex Maker Kit will be put to great use with more hands-on work in math and science like building bridges and ramps to see forces and motion in action. The number line would also be a great way to engage students and help them kinetically learn more about the relationships between number values. The reusable magnetic teaching chart and white boards are on my list too because I want to also begin thinking in the long term about sustainability in my classroom. The whiteboards and the teaching charts will help reduce our paper use!

I want to make learning more fun for my students and I believe these tools will help engage and support them on our adventure through 3rd grade this year. Thank you for considering to donate to our class!
