This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am an elementary school art educator. I teach students grades K-5. Our school has a very diverse population that represents 28 different nationalities!
As an art teacher I receive less than $1.00 per student for supplies. This year I am doing an integrated science lesson with all grades dealing with reptiles and amphibians. My students have visited our local zoo and are interested in making their own "herpitarium" using art materials.
We need the art supplies to develop this project. Students at all grade levels will make not only their own reptile or amphibian, but also construct habitats out of papier mache. In developing these animals and habitats, students will become familiar with how these animals are physiologically build. In constructing their habitats, our students will also understand what it takes to keep our natural flora and fauna in healthy living conditions.
Your financial help will ensure that our students get to experience following up their visual research with a hands-on creative learning experience that will engage their minds in authentic learning. Making their own "herpitarium" and sharing it with family members will be a learning experience that will impact our students outlook on the world they live in now and in the future!
