This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an amazing school with a special vibe. Although we have seen several changes in education over the years, we have managed to stay consistent in providing children with quality education. Our students feel safe here amidst the chaos of the street. Located in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in New York, it is a place you don't want to leave. Having the opportunity to work with students from grades 6 to 8, you have the unique ability to watch small cohorts of scholars mature into awesome young adults. That is our school!

My Project

I am so excited after some recent Algebra for All coursework this summer! We explored strategies for helping students connect algebra to all types of representations, even touched on cultural responsiveness in the mathematics classroom. I was introduced to concepts such as purposeful struggle that incorporates research-based approaches to student performance. There is only one major issue. Most of the suggested strategies involve adapting tasks to provide access for all. The printer/copier and toner will allow me to make changes to task and print them without waiting 2 weeks for copies. In a school with a small budget printing and copies can often be the most challenging task. I would love to provide a new opportunity for some of our most struggling students!
