This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have a thirst for learning and gaining knowledge of new skills. I teach English Language Arts and Reading to middle school students. Some of my students are struggling readers and/or English is their second language. I also teach advanced and gifted learners. Since I have such a diverse range of students, it is my job to foster their love for reading, writing, and grammar while helping them to overcome their weaknesses in this subject.

Being that I have a diverse group of learners, I make ensure that my students become enthusiastic about reading and writing.

This school year has been a challenge because I am teaching a hybrid model. In some class periods, I meet them online, while in other periods, they come to my classroom physically. This year, both my students and I had no choice but to learn more about incorporating technology into our learning/teaching. We are writing essays, reading both novels and stories in literature, building vocabulary and reading comprehension skills, and using presentation tools to do class projects. By the end of this pandemic, I know students will have reached their goal and become better readers and writers.

My Project

This school year, I was using Bluetooth earbuds while teaching my students. The earbuds had many glitches where they stopped in the middle of my teaching and/or my students were not able to hear me. I know that my current earbuds are outdated and not effective anymore. Therefore, I will need new and more reliable earbuds to use for teaching and when I attend virtual trainings this summer.

Getting new AirPods will help me when I teach but also when I attend various professional developments this summer for new textbooks and new ELA Standards.

For this upcoming school year, the school district will be transitioning into new state standards. Since I am the department head, I will be attending professional development on the new standards and the new textbooks for the upcoming school year. Since the trainings will be online, I will be attending them from home. It will be a challenge because my husband, kids, and a dog will be in the house and I will need to be able to hear the instructor clearly. Having more reliable earbuds, I will be able to hear the instructors much better plus they can hear me. The AirPods have a noise cancellation feature which will improve the quality of the sound plus they are wireless so I can be mobile. Please support my project so I can have more effective earbuds for both my teaching and trainings.
