This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our music room is a safe and fun place where my students make music together. They walk into the room, I grab my ukulele, and we sing hello to each other. Despite challenges they might have, I want my students to find comfort in music.

I teach every class in our school from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade, nearly a total of 500 students, at a Title I elementary school in Washington Heights in Manhattan, New York City, where many of my students come from a Hispanic background.

For most of them, our music class is the only opportunity for their music lessons. Therefore, I want to make our time together as meaningful as possible.

Our school maintains relatively small class sizes, and that enables teachers to give more-tailored instructions, but this is a factor which contributes to a tight budget. In addition, a lot of students come from low-income families. Nevertheless, I am determined to do my best not to let those factors stand in the way of my students getting the resources they deserve. Our school provides a safe learning environment for our students, and I will do my best to provide them with the right tools and opportunities.

My Project

My students and I have a spacious music room with a fantastic view of the George Washington Bridge and the Hudson River. The music room is is located on the top floor in an old building, and the room is unfortunately not air-conditioned. As a first-year music teacher at my current school, one of my biggest tasks, ever since this academic year started, is to clean and organize the room. In fact, my first project on DonorsChoose was funded to obtain a high-quality vacuum, and that vacuum has been an essential part of our music room.

In order to help my students feel comfortable in the music room, I am requesting a Dyson air purifier, which can also function as a fan.

As an air purifier, it will keep the room pleasant for many students as a tremendous amount of cleaning and organizing continues in the room. As a big tower fan, it will also help our students stay focused and be comfortable in our non-air conditioned music room as summer approaches.

I feel that it is very important to make the room clean, healthy, comfortable, and inviting for my students. It has definitely been a tremendous task, but I am slowly and surely doing a good job. Please help us maintain healthy and comfortable environment by bringing a high-quality Dyson air purifier fan. Thank you for your consideration.
