Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My AP U.S. History students have self-selected into a rigorous course that--due to the constraints of our small high school--requires them to stay after school five days a week and attend an additional class. Most students read at middle grade levels; in order to succeed in a college-level course, we're using double class time.
This is the inaugural year of the program, and it has become clear that hunger is the number one barrier to success for my students.
100% of my students come from low income households; many experience food insecurity. These snacks provide not just an added incentive to show up and study hard, but much-needed fuel at a tough time in the day.
Thank you in advance for helping to support my students in their first AP class! Each of their successes will inspire new and ongoing inquiry into college-level courses, U.S. History, and the world of social science in general.
