This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I would like to start an after school art program for the students at Stemmons Elementary. I need funding for extra materials that will not be covered by the district. I teach art and this is the first time Stemmons has had an art class in 6 years. I want to get the students excited about art. I want to spark their creativity and tap into their hidden artistic talents. I see a lot of promise in these students, I just need the funds to bring it to reality. I want the students to become more involved in the community, environment and to show pride in their school. Stemmons is a title 1 school. I am building the art program from scratch. Any donations are greatly appreciated. Some projects I have in mind for the students are creating a mural for the school (possibly in auditorium or hallway). We would need to purchase acrylic paint and materials for this project, fashion show (designing wearable paper outfits, like the paper dresses that were all the craze in the 60's). We would need to purchase butcher paper, patterns for the clothes, and materials to help with the decoration.
These are a few ideas that I have come up with. The students need a program that helps them to be creative and proud of what they can do as well as giving back to the community and their school.
