My Project

Our school is located in the inner city, with underprivileged families striving for a better life. Single parents, grandparents, and older siblings continue to do their very best to instill a better way of living for their families. They face many challenges, but that doesn't impede them from wanting to learn or stop them from dreaming big. We are 95% African American, 2% Haitian American, 2% Hispanic, and 1% Caucasian, with 97% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Some of our students have IEPs, we have some pending IEPs, as well as ESOL children. So our days are challenging.

Dr. Seuss says, "Reading can take you places you have never been before."

Another favorite quote is, "You can get help from teachers, but you are going to have to learn a lot by yourself, sitting alone in a room."

These books by Dr. Seuss would benefit all of my students and their younger siblings for years to come. Exposure to books contributes to an understanding of print concepts (left to right, top to bottom, front to back, punctuation, title/author, illustrator, and letter concepts). It will also help develop early reading skills. Most of my students' homes are encompassed in Public Housing and do not have extra money to purchase books to have in their homes.

We are also requesting Teacher Pay Teacher gift cards to help with their learning. The laminating sheets will protect the materials from TPT so they last longer.
