My Students

The current atmosphere of my school is trying to rebuild school pride and improve its participation in the community. Often you'll hear a conversation between students or students and teachers about what we need to have in our school. We have built a fountain of ideas ranging from a "Fun Club" to different after school activities the students want to have.

As part of an under-funded urban district, students often find themselves limited by the lack of support for their interests.

I have seen my students thrive if they are given the opportunities and belief that they can succeed.

My Project

My students are a bundle of fun, active, short-attention-spanned pre-teenagers. I am looking to start the year off with something that will give their hands a job to do, while training their ear to listen to their peers at the same time.

African Drumming is proven to develop communication skills as it uses music, in place of words, to send ideas.

Using drums is a super fun way to get students involved in a musical ensemble where their FOCUS, Concentration, LISTENING, and non-verbal communication skills can be honed and expanded. The best part is they get to bang on something, but learn the history, culture, and musical skills all at the same time!
