Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

African history, art and culture are major components of the sixth-grade Social Studies curriculum. In order to make the study of Africa exciting, I plan to create a unit which includes traditional lessons and a variety of hands-on projects so that students may experience the richness of African culture for themselves. It is very difficult to provide the educational experience that my students deserve without additional resources. The "Art of Africa" videos will provide the background knowledge necessary to explore African culture. Activities such as storytelling, creative writing and the creation of masks will enrich the unit. With the addition of a few educational tools, including art supplies, videos and books, my students will enjoy an interactive educational experience studying this important continent.
