My Project

Inside my dance studio, I want all students to feel supported, celebrated, and affirmed in their identities! Great books can serve as both mirrors and windows of our identities - either reflections of ourselves, or a peek into the perspectives of those who are different from us. A diverse library can provide my students with both the affirmation they deserve and access to new cultural knowledge!

When my dancers feel represented and celebrated in their identities, their most creative selves can flourish inside and outside of the studio!

Using literature as a teaching tool for understanding different perspectives, cultures, and even big emotions can optimize learning and improve positive identity development in the classroom! Through activities like Reader's Theater and choreographing dance sequences based on the events in a story, my students will develop empathy, social awareness, and relationship skills thanks to the diverse selection of books you are helping to provide!

My students also use books as a way to cool down when they are feeling stressed or overwhelmed. Having affirming and SEL-oriented books in my cozy corner library can help them feel supported in times of crisis and motivated to re-join the class when they feel better!
