My Project
We are starting a new affective needs classroom at the secondary level. Students in this program have significant emotional and behavioral needs and are arguably some of the most impacted students in the district.
To support students in utilizing their skills in the general education setting, we are using daily point sheets to monitor success.
Based on a student’s rate of success for the week, they will be able to choose preferred items from our class store.
Some of the preferred items students like to earn include fidget toys, stress balls and kinetic sand. In addition to earning these, students are able to use them daily to help them manage stress, anxiety and other emotions that impact their learning.
In addition to items for our class store, students will benefit from the purchase of curriculum that both teachers and mental health workers can use to guide our practices and use trauma informed practices with students.
Finally, the purchase of games that support the use of social skills and executive functioning skills will be used to help develop these skills in students during group times.
