This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our STEM classroom is a busy place. On any given day, student teams are brainstorming, drawing diagrams, developing budgets, or building and testing prototype designs.

Our students are smart, curious, thoughtful, and respectful.

They love learning and are always eager to try something new! They value what they have, which isn't always much. Our school is a Title I school located in Baltimore City. As a large urban school district, resources are spread quite thin. We are a PreK-8th grade school located in East Baltimore. Over 600 students attend our school and represent multiple nationalities.

My Project

Students work throughout the year to design products and prototypes that seek to solve real world problems. Once their designs are created, they test their products to determine their effectiveness. As we launch our Engineering 2 program, students will be expected to take their product development experience to the next level. Student teams will begin creating marketing campaigns for their products. While student teams currently have the choice to market their products through traditional means such as poster advertisements and slideshow presentations, students have expressed interest in making commercial advertisements. The new Flip Ultra camera will allow teams this additional option for their marketing campaigns.

Today's students are the future scientists and engineers of tomorrow.

It's important for educators to help students learn the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in these fields. Engineering challenges allow students to explore science concepts, apply math skills, and become familiar with STEM careers. These hands on activities engage all learners, and help students realize their valuable role on a work team. Students walk away not only knowledgeable, but also inspired and empowered!
