This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students need fresh, creative ways to spark their interest in reading and learning. Education is evolving rapidly, and so are my students' interests. Many of them are captivated by immersive, interactive experiences, which is why I’m excited to bring Dungeons & Dragons into our classroom. This role-playing game, filled with storytelling, problem-solving, and character development, aligns perfectly with their growing curiosity and enthusiasm for fantasy worlds and adventure.

Many students who struggle with traditional reading find the rich, imaginative scenarios in Dungeons & Dragons more engaging.

The game’s structure requires reading complex texts, interpreting rules, and diving into narratives that enhance literacy without feeling like traditional schoolwork. By reading the guides, creating characters, and participating in these stories, my students will build their reading comprehension and creative thinking skills in a way that feels both fun and rewarding.

Dungeons & Dragons is an excellent gateway to improving literacy for reluctant readers. As students become engrossed in the game, they begin to read more for enjoyment, discovering that storytelling can be an adventure in itself. This project will give them access to materials that will help them grow as readers and learners while keeping them excited and motivated to explore new worlds.
