My Students

The students of BLPCS are pretty special! They come to school eager to learn despite the many obstacles they face on a daily basis. Recently there has been an increase of violent acts in the neighborhood but they still come to school ready to learn. We have had a lockdown for a shooting across the street and continue to have a police presence on a daily basis. My students need to know this is not normal behavior. I want to help them escape through reading great books.

My Project

These sets of books will be utilized in a specialized book club for students in grades four and five. These students were selected to be a part of the group due to their above grade reading level. These students will be challenged to read, discuss and complete independent projects based on these books. By reading these books, the students will be exposed to different genres of literature, experience higher level questioning and become more independent thinkers. Hopefully, this will keep them motivated, increase vocabulary and help them to continue achieve in the future. These books will also be used again to continue our book clubs with more students.
