Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Many of my kindergarten students are learning to read and write, but they need to strengthen their connection of speech sounds to letter representations. The Advancing Phonics Word Work kit has the magnetic letters and trays with wipe off mats to help my students map the sounds to print.
Manipulating the letters to build words is the most effective way to develop the sound-symbol correspondences.
Science of reading is a body of research that I strongly believe in and these tools will help my students be actively engaged in activities like word building and word chaining during small group instruction . I can't wait for my students to to use the magnetic letters and trays so that my students can manipulate and move the sound-symbol linkages as they develop their reading and writing skills. My goal for my students is when they engage in orthographic mapping, they build the necessary skills essential for reading and writing.
