Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My AP chemistry classroom is different than my other classes. My goal is to have the students overly prepared not only for the AP exam in May but also their undergraduate college lab classes. "Believe you can and you're already half way there." -Teddy Roosevelt

My students and school is often referred to as "underfunded" or having "economic hardship." My students do not stress this but do what they can manage as much as they can.

For the Advanced Placement class it is hard to bring in money from the students because often times parents are working several jobs and just trying to make ends meat. Our school is heavily populated by English Learners and a full inclusion Special Education Program. Often times, the funding goes into more resources for other programs away from Science.

My Project

These lab notebooks will enable my students to complete labs in a manner similar to most universities. They will be given structured pre-labs with instructions and then given only guiding questions to answer for their analysis and discussions. The students will also be able to keep a running record of their lab submissions and stay organized with their labs. This will also be helpful because it will cause less clutter in their Interactive Notebooks and all them to reference a "lab manual" as needed throughout the class.

Donations to this project will improve the college culture I bring to my students.

The lab notebooks will be a point of emphasis on what Science is like at the collegiate level. It will allow students to see the great weight that lab exercises play in their Science education and see the importance of writing everything, including wrong lab data, down so they can grow as Chemists.
