My Project

My science students will learn about the elements of the Periodic Table (PToE) by creating a giant PToE. Each student will research an element, then create an advertisement for the element in the form of a PToE "tile". We will laminate each students element project and create a giant Periodic Table of the Elements. Laminating the projects will ensure the project's integrity while on display. This project enables students to express their learning in a creative way, and develops community as they build their class Periodic Table.

Exploring science concepts through STEAM activities builds critical thinking skills, encourages creativity, and increases engagement and motivation.

For many of my students, 6th grade is the first time they are taking science; the dense reading and abstract concepts are obstacles to their understanding. Hands-on activities that allow for creative expression are motivating and engaging.

In addition, my class has much diversity in learning needs and racial and ethnic identity. STEAM projects allow me as a teacher to attend to the learning needs of all my students as well as be more culturally responsive. Please help my students to preserve in their science thinking.
