Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a true representation of what a diverse school should look like. We are located in a corner of Brooklyn, New York-where all paths of life connect. We have many ethnicities, different backgrounds, varied social statuses. Many of them are the first ones in their families to start planning beyond high school. Our students engage in challenging academic and social experiences that prepare them for college-level learning and full participation in civic life. We are part of NYC Outward Bound School and we use the EL Education model, which has its roots in Outward Bound.

My Project

After a year of COVID and online learning, we want to give out students the opportunity to own their copy of a physical book. Some of our students struggled with digital copies of our readings. Some of our students were reading books from their smartphones, and that made them lose interest.

By donating to our library, you will provide an opportunity for students to be able to take a book home and see themselves represented.

Two of these authors have written about coming to the United States and the adversities they faced. The other book represents women as they navigate the world in search of their identity.
