This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

It was such a quick, fast transition, not with a lot of time to adapt. The immensity of the coronavirus and the impacts it has had has taken all of us by surprise and put us all in a very confused state. My students left school in the middle of March and the return to school date is still unknown.

As a music teacher who uses predominantly an Orff philosophy of teaching music, where we are constantly dancing, playing circle games, hand-clapping games, and using Orff instruments, I am looking ways to adapt and find online materials in order to teach remotely and then thinking about what a more socially distant classroom might look like when we do go back in terms of music education.

My Project

I have been uploading many videos for my students to learn from during remote learning. I frequently use the felt board and incorporate literacy into music lessons, while teaching essential music concepts, such as musical opposites like high/ low, fast/ slow, and loud/ soft. Students enjoy and benefit from seeing his or her actual teacher's face and hearing his or her voice. With students at home for a while now, continuing to motivate them and engage them is becoming a challenge. Though the use of fun puppets, new stories, and sharing new instruments I hope to keep them engaged!
